Animated or text-based battle - which do you prefer?

What do you prefer in a sim which has a battle system:

1. The battle is animated, such as in Flight Rising.

2. The battle is text-based, i.e. no animation; you click a button (e.g. "bite") and results are text based ("you bite and cause 50 damage"). etc. I remember a game like this but I forgot the name..

3. You don't care, you like both types.

What do you like? Personally I prefer the second type, I like the simplicity. And the first type can cause problems in terms of lagging, not working properly for players etc.. there's just more potential for problems. But I want to see what everyone else thinks.

A dark room if you played on the web used text-based battle to great effect as animations and not as one long list of what happened in combat. Other two games from what I remembered used text based combat in logs so over the course of hours you can see the results of a fight as everything was limited by action points over time.
Animations are cool and nice if you can keep making more of them which means more cash coming in than going out.
I would pick 3. because both types can be good.
